Meet the STAFF
Meet the staff behind Communitopia's community initiatives. From our different programs, you will get to meet each staff member that helps to ensure that we share the key concepts from each grant as well as helping those in the community learn that sustainability is something that everyone can lend a hand in.
Katie is the staff educator at Communitopia and she greatly enjoys her role of creating and presenting climate change workshops to students throughout Allegheny County. She has a double major in Spanish and Anthropology as well as a M.S. in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. From 2006-2008 she kicked off her teaching career by joining Teach for America and taught for two years in the Rio Grande Valley of Southern Texas. She has been an educator ever since. In 2011 she moved to the Netherlands to work as the Director of Learning Support at the American International School of Rotterdam. Upon returning to the United States she worked as faculty in the Education Department at Central College before moving to Pittsburgh, her husband’s hometown. Aside from being an educator, Katie is an avid outdoor enthusiast. She has cycled across the United States, participates in multi-day running relays and is a certified yoga instructor. She also currently serves as the Mentor Coordinator for the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Pittsburgh.
